Chapter 9: One Shot Upon Meeting
Chapter 9: One Shot Upon Meeting
Lee Ethan sent the photos of the Black people he had secretly taken to Jacob Garcia.
"Jacob, help me find out who this man is. He's been following me."
Jacob called immediately.
"Ethan, tell me in detail."
"Here's what happened."
Jacob quickly identified the other party using the methods of the cybercrime investigation department: Damian Foster, who had a criminal record for assault, had been released from prison less than a year ago, and was now a member of a local black gang.
"Thanks, otherwise it would have been very difficult for me to find out their identity on my own."
"Ethan, remember to let me know if you have any problems, and we'll help you."
"Don't worry, I can handle it."
After hanging up the phone, Li Yisen's eyes became deep as he considered various options, ultimately choosing a bold one.
"Then let's have a go."
.
A day later, in the dimly lit alley, a Black man followed Ethan Lee into the alley.
The footsteps faded into the distance until they disappeared, and the black man lost sight of his target.
"Where did you go?"
He kept looking for an opportunity, but the other party never gave him a chance to make a move.
Just as the black man was frantically searching, a pistol was already aimed at him, and the next second a shot rang out.
"Bang"
The black man fell to the ground quickly, a bloody hole in his head, his eyes filled with disbelief, wondering why the other party had opened fire without warning.
Lee Ethan approached the black man's feet, took an M18 military pistol from the system, put it in the corpse's hand, and then fired at a certain angle to create the illusion of a gunfight.
A dimly lit, deserted alleyway, gang members armed with illegal firearms, and a county police officer who has just been commended for his service—this is someone's plan.
Lee Ethan didn't know why the black man was following him; he only confirmed that the man wasn't carrying a gun.
Don't overthink it, just call the police.
Call 911 from your cell phone.
"This is Los Angeles County Sheriff Ethan Lee, badge number 49527. I have been involved in a shootout with a gang member in XXX. Please call an ambulance."
"Please wait where you are."
After hanging up the phone, Li Yisen looked at the system notification.
[Ding! Congratulations, host, for stopping an attack on a police officer. We are extracting the criminal's skill talents.]
[Ding! Obtained a 1-star Desire-type Talent: Basic Addiction]
[Bit: It's absolutely amazing!]
"What the heck?" Lee Ethan looked at another prompt.
[Ding! You have obtained a Glock 17 pistol, equipped with 9mm ammunition.]
"I used one, then got another. It's not a bad deal, and the Glock 17 is better than the M18."
In truth, Lee Ethan was still somewhat uncomfortable, as this was the first time he had killed someone who "did not deserve to die."
Oh, and he has another phone call to make.
Lee Ethan called his instructor at the Central Prison.
"Instructor Cole, something's happened here. A black assassin tried to kill me but was killed instead. I suspect it's related to the prison riot."
"I will communicate with my superiors."
"Thank you for your help."
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived quickly, and sirens blared from all sides of the alley. Ethan cooperated by placing his service weapon on the ground and raising his hands to await arrest by the police.
"I am a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Officer, and the deceased was a killer who tried to kill me."
Upon hearing this, the police officer in charge of escorting the goods reduced the pressure slightly.
"I will not take any further action, but please cooperate."
"I see."
The police cars went directly to the Western Precinct, while the remaining officers cordoned off the area and set up police tape.
Soon, two detectives, a man and a woman, entered the interrogation room to interrogate Li Yisen. The woman was a second-level detective, and this department was specifically responsible for cases involving shootings involving police officers.
The middle-aged policewoman said in a deep voice.
"Hello Officer Li, I'm Detective Sophie Parker from the Shooting Incident Response Unit."
Black police officers are kinder.
"My name is Isaac Murphy. To make a long story short, we want to know what happened during the shooting."
Lee Esen nodded. A second-level detective is only slightly lower in rank than a superintendent.
"Of course, no problem. It all started when I realized someone was following me. I suspected it was revenge from fellow inmates in prison, so I put on a bulletproof vest and brought my sidearm. Since I had no evidence, I wanted to subdue the person in the alley and get some information out of them."
Sophie Parker interrupted.
"Wait a minute, Officer Li, you should know very well that you don't have law enforcement authority, right?"
"I understand, so I just want to ask, who knew that the person would open fire as soon as we met, and then I returned fire, and there are photos and videos on my phone of him following me."
The two police officers took out their cell phones from the evidence bag and, after unlocking them with Lee Ethan's phone, found the evidence of their tracking.
"This evidence does prove that Damian Foster was following you, and we have completed ballistic side tests, but further investigation is needed. Do you have anything to add?"
"I've learned that Damian Foster is a member of a local gang called The Seabirds. If we follow the trail, we might find clues to the riot at the Men's Central Prison. The presence of two knives in the prison must have been planned."
Isaac interrupted.
"There is no evidence yet to suggest a link to the prison riots, but we will investigate in that direction."
The conversation ended quickly, and the two plainclothes detectives left the room to exchange opinions.
"It's highly likely that the deceased was stalking someone with the intention of assassinating them. The evidence is overwhelming, especially the gun with only the deceased's fingerprints on it. It's an illegal military handgun."
"On the contrary, I feel the evidence is too overwhelming, and the county sheriff was far too calm. And why give the victim the opportunity to attack? Was he really that confident in himself?"
Sophie sighed; she didn't really want to investigate Black gangs during this sensitive time.
"We have no choice but to continue the investigation. We need to request an investigation into the Seagull Gang from higher authorities and find out the reason why they attacked the police."
On the other hand, Li Yisen will have to stay in the detention center for a while, but fortunately the person in charge is the county police, so he can chat with them and the treatment they give him is not bad.
That's how I got in.
The county police officer on guard cursed.
"Those bugs really deserve to die. Brother, just stay here for a few days. They should be released soon, but your transfer might be delayed a bit."
Li Yisen looked helpless.
"I can understand. I never imagined those guys would go so crazy."
Lee Ethan had prepared himself mentally for the operation. He knew that if he shot a criminal, he would be on paid leave for a period of time, even if he was not prosecuted. It could be as short as one or two weeks, or as long as three months. If he was prosecuted, it would take even longer.
Unfortunately, Ethan Lee was just a low-ranking police officer, and that was about all the methods he could use.
"I've already made my move; let's see if you can handle it."
That evening, Los Angeles news reported on Ethan Lee's case.
"Police officers who suppressed a prison riot were assassinated today in what appears to be retaliation. The attacker, Damian Foster, a local gangster of African descent, was killed in the ensuing firefight."
The shooting of a Black man during the Black Lives Matter protests, even though the police stated that it was a Black man who attacked him, still caused quite a stir.
In the following days, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated the Seagull Gang under pressure, and the situation became increasingly chaotic as the election approached.
