Chapter 1919 - 1909: Someone Appears to Oppose the Supreme Emperor
"Lan, you’re always tagging along. Show some respect to Brother Lin. Do you think Brother Lin will like you? With your overbearing attitude, no man wants to handle you. You’re too domineering." Beiming Huang’s cold eyes also revealed defiance. These were thoughts she mused over in her mind, but her intense gaze seemed to convey all her unsaid words to Beiming Lan.But Beiming Lan saw her gaze as a different kind of provocation.
Lin Zifeng sat dazed at the table. He glanced around before finally resting his eyes on Beiming Yu, who shrugged helplessly.
"Here! Brother Lin, try the grilled squid slices. They taste amazing." Beiming Huang quickly picked a piece for Lin Zifeng.
"No need, follower. Not everyone can eat squid slices. People with allergies can’t eat them."
"Who says you can’t? I made these squid slices myself. You can eat them without worry, Brother Lin. They’re absolutely safe." Beiming Huang insisted on placing the squid slice in Lin Zifeng’s bowl.
"Okay, okay, I’ll eat, I’ll eat. Will that do?" Their battle left poor Lin Zifeng caught in the middle. Despite not particularly liking squid slices, he couldn’t resist their hospitality and had to eat them. Who knows what drama happened between the two of them, to make him suffer this way.
"Follower, the melon cakes are really sweet. Come, try this." Just as Lin Zifeng hadn’t finished his squid slice, Beiming Lan glared at her sister Beiming Huang before placing a large piece of melon cake in Lin Zifeng’s bowl.
"Hmph! The follower doesn’t like squid slices. It causes allergies."
"Alright, if squid slices are off the menu, try the melon cake." Unable to argue with Beiming Lan, Beiming Huang continued to serve Lin Zifeng with a big melon slice, piling his poor bowl even higher. Consequently, his face became more exaggerated. When would he ever finish eating all this? What did they take him for, a pig?
Damn it~ If I had known dinner would go like this, I wouldn’t have come even if beaten to death. You two are bickering, using me for fun. Showing off culinary skills isn’t done this way. Poor Lin Zifeng could only look expectantly at the carefree Beiming Yu but Beiming Yu just shrugged, appearing indifferent as though she saw nothing. In the end... he could only become the "dumpster" being force-fed by both of them.
Soon enough... the dinner turned awkward. As the two girls force-fed him, Lin Zifeng reluctantly finished all the pastries they claimed were "homemade." Upon leaving, he was so full his eyes saw stars.
He intended to leave just like that, vowing never to return to Beiming Mansion, but Beiming Yu stopped him.
Could it be, Beiming Yu also wanted to offer him the two large cakes she held? Lin Zifeng indulged in the thought for a moment.
"Don’t leave yet. There’s something I want to discuss with you." Beiming Yu gracefully approached and lightly tugged on Lin Zifeng’s arm.
"What? Is there more to it?" Lin Zifeng eyed her curiously, feeling mischievous inside. Could she really want him to try her cakes?
"I invited you here today to meet someone." Seeing Lin Zifeng’s confusion, Beiming Yu didn’t bother keeping it secret. She led him toward Qishi Mansion, leaving Lin Zifeng even more perplexed. He couldn’t fathom what she was up to. Once inside Qishi Mansion, old friends were still around. When Lin Zifeng first blended into Qishi Mansion, his first acquaintances were Xidu, who was neither male nor female, and the crazy old man.
And now, Xidu had left Qishi Mansion, and the crazy old man passed away from illness a week ago, leaving only scattered memories behind. Looking at these somewhat familiar courtyards reignited Lin Zifeng’s memories. Time floods by like tides.
Not long has passed, yet so much has happened. When he first joined Qishi Mansion, he first knew the crazy old man. Unthinkably, he left this world. Alas, it reminded him of a saying: Who in this world escapes death? Whether dazzlingly beautiful or overwhelmingly glorious, ultimately no one escapes time’s erosion.
"You didn’t bring me here to see these old residences, did you?" Lin Zifeng squinted his eyes, revealing a glint of light as he smiled.
"Of course not. I’m saddened by the crazy old man’s passing, but he’s gone, and that’s in the past. Today, someone I want you to meet will surely lift your spirits once you see them."
"Oh? Who could be that fascinating?" Lin Zifeng raised an eyebrow, eagerly anticipating the person’s appearance she mentioned. Few in this world truly excite Lin Zifeng.
Beiming Yu smiled gently, then clapped her hands. From the depths of Qishi Mansion, emerged a figure dressed in a gray cloak! One might call it a person, but it resembled more an ostrich, completely shrouded in the gray cloak, hiding its features. Judging by its appearance, indeed, distinguishing individual features was difficult. Especially its walking posture and appearance were much like an ostrich.
"Hello, Mr. Lin." The cloaked figure limped toward Lin Zifeng, keeping its head down, not making eye contact. Who knows if it’s human or ghost. However, as it drew near, Lin Zifeng suddenly caught a familiar scent, as though he had met this person somewhere before.
"Do you know me?" Lin Zifeng asked, frowning.
"Not unfamiliar." The voice was hoarse, like the grinding sound of stone, very unpleasant to hear. Its implication was somewhat recognizing him, though Lin Zifeng racked his brains trying to recall if he had ever met it.
So, he turned to look at Beiming Yu. Beiming Yu understood his intent.
She smiled softly, speaking gently, "Lin Zifeng, I think you should recognize this person. Don’t you have any impression?" Beiming Yu smiled with an air of expectation.
Lin Zifeng shook his head, indicating he had no impression. While he felt familiarity, it was only the aura emanating from the other that resonated with him.
"At Kunling Mountain, when you seized the Heavenly Painting Halberd, the Supreme Emperor tried to kill you. You were saved though. Do you have any memory of that?" Beiming Yu explained with a smile without showing teeth, "This person helped me at Kunling Mountain!" Lin Zifeng’s eyebrows moved, recalling when he took the Heavenly Painting Halberd at Kunling Mountain. The Supreme Emperor suddenly attacked, and at the critical moment, someone assisted him. He suspected at the time it might be Liu Jiuhuang or Beiming Yu who saved him. Unexpectedly, it was this fellow here. Truly beyond Lin Zifeng’s expectations.
