Chapter 1139: New Group.
Chapter 1139: New Group.
Alec watched the ground tremble violently as the swarm of Zergs surged forward like a living tide, countless bodies crawled over one another without the slightest care, their shrieks blending into a horrifying wall of sound that echoed across the entire area—the same disturbing chorus that had made him take to the skies in the first place.
The fifty barbarians assigned to guard him all looked confused, uncertain of how to respond to such a situation, though they were mid-rank warriors, however Alec could already tell that they did not operate on the same power level as the mages of the Origin World.
Instead, they relied on something called life force, which made their Qi far more potent than normal, so without mana it means they didn’t have the ability of flight at mid rank.
From a distance, Alec thought the Zergs looked like a black flood swallowing everything in its path, but as they drew closer, their individual forms became much clearer—razor-sharp claws scraping against the earth, rows of jagged teeth snapping hungrily, and glowing eyes fixed on the barbarians atop the city walls as though they were prey.
The smaller Zergs raced at the front of the swarm, darting wildly between the larger ones like starving predators desperate to be the first to feed, while the heavier creatures behind them crushed debris beneath their weight without slowing down in the slightest.
Dust and broken earth exploded into the air beneath the sheer number of charging bodies, the noise alone was overwhelming—thousands of limbs pounding against the ground in a chaotic rhythm that sounded like an approaching avalanche.
And despite how disorderly the swarm looked at first glance, there was a terrifying unity in the way they moved. No hesitation. No fear. Only endless hunger, as the entire horde charged straight toward the defenders atop the city wall like a nightmare made flesh.
“Archers, take aim... ready... shoot!”
For the first time, Alec couldn’t help feeling his blood run cold the moment he saw the sheer number of Zergs rushing toward them, though many of them were low-rank, however; the instant he imagined himself being dumped alone in the middle of that horde, one truth became painfully clear to him, he wouldn’t survive if he didn’t run.
However, the moment he heard the Amazon Warrior Queen’s command, Alec snapped out of his dazed state and watched as the Amazon archers released their first volley into the air.
Ting!!!!
Though the Amazon archers had beautiful faces, nevertheless they were incredibly merciless in battle. Before loosing their arrows, each of them coated the shafts in her own Qi.
It was the first time Alec had seen someone ignite their inner Qi and shape it with elemental properties. Clearly, in a world without magic, the Amazon archers had developed their own method of using elemental attacks by igniting the power within their Qi and drawing out its hidden potential.
The arrows arced beautifully through the air, as if guided by some angel of death.
And once that deadly rain descended, Alec finally saw the true danger behind that elegance, the arrows tore through the smaller Zergs at the front, dropping them in large numbers. Some shots were even powerful enough to pierce through multiple enemies at once.
However, to the Zerg swarm, the deaths of those at the front meant almost nothing, some simply trampled over the bodies of their fallen and continued forward.
Others took savage bites from the dead before charging on, yet even then, their eyes still burned with the same insatiable hunger, as though nothing could ever satisfy them.
“Aim! Set target! Fire!” The Amazon Warrior Queen showed no surprise at the Zergs’ behavior as she barked another command, ordering her Archers to unleash a second volley without delay, as there was no time to waste.
Just as Alec decided that he too would join in the bombardment, the urge to fight starting to rise in him, a loud boom erupted behind him, he turned just in time to see the mortar launch its first massive, flaming shell into the air.
The sound rang out so loudly that Alec suddenly remembered he had actually purchased defensive artillery to help them, the fiery mortar shell arced through the air before crashing straight into the charging swarm of Zergs.
Because of how densely packed they were, it wasn’t hard for the blast to wipe out another large portion of them, it was almost like a sudden moment of realization struck Alec.
He finally understood that, if he wanted to win this battle, the best thing he could truly rely on was the machinery he had gotten from the system.
The power of that mortar alone made him feel as though it possessed the same destructive force and range as a Tier 6 mage of the magic path.
Without hesitation, he used his mental power to pull the cube toward himself before activating the layout of his new settlement.
The cube rose slightly into the air, and beneath it appeared a complete layout of the settlement. From the holographic image before him, it looked as though he was watching a miniature version of the battle itself.
He quickly redirected the other cannons, which had originally been facing different angles, toward the direction from which the Zergs were coming; the cannons hadn’t started firing yet, but that was only because the Zergs hadn’t entered their range.
Still, Alec was certain of one thing, the moment the Zergs pushed past the area the mortar was bombarding, they would soon cross into the cannons’ range and trigger them automatically.
After all, the gap between the mortar’s range and the cannons’ range wasn’t that wide.
Once he finished, he closed the interface before him and let the cube float back to its original position at the center of the settlement, while he watched the two cannons he had just repositioned get flung through the air as though some invisible magical hands had moved them towards the same line on the city wall were the other two were arranged.
Many times, Alec had tried to understand how the system could control things like this and make objects appear out of thin air so effortlessly.
But even now, he still hadn’t found a satisfying answer, and in the end, he had simply given up trying.
At that exact moment, the metallic sound Alec had been waiting for finally rang out, he heard the cannons creak as they slowly rotated into position, as if they had just awakened.
Without anyone controlling them, the four cannons he had arranged in a straight line across different points of the settlement all locked onto their targets. Then, the next thing that followed was another thunderous bang across the battlefield, joining the booming rhythm of the mortar, as the bodies of the zergs were getting decimated easily.
And for a brief moment, everything seemed to be going well, and the city looked as though it would be able to keep the situation under control, however that feeling was short lived because something else appeared
Another set of Zergs, completely different.
This time, the new set of Zergs looked entirely different from the first group that were still charging forward aimlessly, all of them were hovering in the air, and from a single glance, Alec could already tell these ones would not be so easily crushed by his machinery or the volleys of his army.
