Chapter 280 - 238: The End, Part 2
The Alaska Honor Award event was an annual high-end gathering in Alaska where elites from all walks of life would come together to network.
Having arranged to meet Frank, Feng Mountain bid farewell to the others and piloted the Carnation to Anchorage alone.
The Susitna River was very close to Anchorage, only about 50 kilometers away.
In less than half an hour, the Carnation landed at a small airfield, guided by its navigation system.
Feng Mountain deftly jumped out of the cabin. The moment he landed, his gaze was drawn to some movement beside the runway.
A black pickup truck was parked there silently.
Bathed in the brilliant sunlight, its body gleamed with a dark luster that exuded an understated luxury, as if silently proclaiming its exceptional quality.
BEEP BEEP!!
The pickup truck honked its horn several times, the loud sound echoing across the small, empty airfield.
Immediately after, Frank, wearing a pair of sunglasses, stepped coolly out of the passenger seat.
Frank walked straight toward Feng Mountain, opened his arms, and gave him a solid hug, patting his back firmly.
"Hey, Feng!"
The two hadn’t seen each other in over a month, and the reunion made them both a little emotional.
Feng Mountain could clearly feel Frank’s body trembling slightly—a tremor born from sincere joy.
A month or so isn’t long, but it isn’t short, either. Yet for the two of them, who shared a bond as deep as family, it felt like an eternity.
"You kiddo, you always manage to surprise me." Frank released Feng Mountain and sized him up, his eyes full of affection. "You did a good job in the Bering Sea."
Feng Mountain knew Frank was talking about the incident with the Hollywood.
"It was the right thing to do. When I heard the distress call, all I knew was that I couldn’t just stand by and watch them fall into danger," Feng Mountain said, scratching his head in embarrassment.
Frank smiled and nodded gently. "Just like your great-uncle, always stepping up when people need it most. Let’s go."
The two of them left the runway and walked toward the pickup truck.
Just then, the driver’s side door of the pickup truck opened, and a blonde woman stepped out.
A cascade of golden hair fell to her shoulders. She wore a tight leather outfit that perfectly accentuated the stunning curves of her figure.
"New girlfriend?" Feng Mountain nudged Frank lightly with his shoulder.
Frank shot Feng Mountain an annoyed glare and muttered, "She’s the host of the awards ceremony. And buddy, don’t you be calling her your new grandma."
The beautiful blonde was already walking toward them, her stride light and confident, each step carrying a unique rhythm.
When she drew near, she smiled at Frank and Feng Mountain, her eyes holding a professional warmth and affability.
"Hello. I’m Eva. It’s a pleasure to be here to welcome our hero."
As she spoke, Eva’s gaze lingered on Feng Mountain for a few extra seconds, her interest clearly piqued.
Feng Mountain beamed and nodded. "A pleasure to meet you."
"Let’s go. I’ll take you to the hotel first." Afraid Feng Mountain might spill the beans at a crucial moment, Frank quickly ushered them into the truck.
They got into the truck.
From the passenger seat, Frank turned his head. "I had Tom bring your ’battle armor’ from Crown Territory. It’s at the hotel. Eva will fill you in on the procedure for the awards ceremony the day after tomorrow."
"What ’battle armor’?" Feng Mountain frowned.
"That Fenrir Wolf Fur Coat," Frank said, a mysterious smile spreading across his face. "By the way, one of the guest presenters is very interested in you. They’re hoping to speak with you after the ceremony."
"Talk about what?" Feng Mountain hated how Frank always left him hanging like this.
"You’ll find out when you meet them. It certainly won’t hurt you, and it might even be good publicity for the Crown Territory."
Frank winked, the corners of his mouth twitching upward. He was deliberately being mysterious to whet Feng Mountain’s curiosity, refusing to give him a straight answer.
Feng Mountain grumbled a reply, too tired to keep pestering Frank about it.
"Fine, whatever. I’m going to get some sleep. Wake me when we get to the hotel."
With that, Feng Mountain leaned back, shifted into a more comfortable position in his seat, and slowly let his eyes drift shut.
Frank, in the passenger seat, would occasionally turn to glance at Feng Mountain, his eyes filled with indulgent fondness.
Eva found the dynamic between the two men a bit strange, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on why. She could only focus on her driving.
The scenery outside the windows continuously changed as the city skyline gradually came into focus. Skyscrapers and storefronts began to fill their view.
「Half an hour later.」
The pickup truck slowly pulled into the hotel parking lot and came to a smooth stop.
Only then did Frank gently nudge Feng Mountain. "Feng, we’re at the hotel."
Feng Mountain slowly opened his eyes. Blinking sleepily, he looked through the window to see a vibrant campus scene outside.
Young students strolled leisurely along the streets, their faces brimming with a youthful energy—an innocence and vitality unique to life on campus.
Other students were walking their dogs, the adorable animals running about happily, occasionally sniffing at the flowers and grass along the path.
On a nearby lawn, a group of young people were in the middle of an intense soccer game. Their cheers and shouts rose and fell, turning the entire green space into a sea of joy.
"Where are we?" Feng Mountain asked, confused.
"The Anchorage University Lake Marriott Spring Hill Suites Hotel," Frank replied, unbuckling his seatbelt. "It’s the hotel the organizers arranged. Let’s get out."
They got out of the truck.
The fresh air that hit his face instantly sobered Feng Mountain up.
The short nap had left him feeling quite comfortable, and he couldn’t help but give a satisfying stretch.
The two of them followed Frank into the hotel.
The hotel lobby was bustling with people and full of activity.
Feng Mountain followed Frank to the front desk to check in. The staff greeted them warmly, and the process went smoothly.
Afterward, they went up to the hotel room.
It wasn’t as luxurious as Feng Mountain had imagined.
However, the room was cozily furnished. The bed was neat and tidy, with the main focus clearly on cleanliness and hygiene.
A faint, pleasant scent of cleaning solution lingered in the air.
"Want to switch hotels?"
Frank frowned, a look of disgust on his face. He was clearly not satisfied with a hotel that didn’t have a star rating.
In his eyes, a hotel of this caliber didn’t seem to fit Feng Mountain’s current status.
"No need. What’s next on the agenda?" Feng Mountain shook his head without hesitation, then walked over to the window and yanked open the curtains.
Instantly, the view from the window filled his eyes. A beautiful garden composed of various green plants, their emerald leaves glistening with life in the sunlight, was dotted with colorful flowers. It was like a natural painting, refreshing the heart and soul.
"I’m off to meet a female client. Care to join?" Frank shrugged, the invitation seemingly casual.
Fack.
’If he really wanted me to come, he wouldn’t have stressed that he was meeting a *female* client.’
’He obviously doesn’t want me to be a third wheel.’
’And he has the nerve to ask so hypocritically.’
Feng Mountain shot him a contemptuous look. "Forget it. I’ll just have some free time. Come and get me later."
"Buddy, you shouldn’t hold it in," Frank said, looking dead serious as he offered his advice. "A recent science journal said that holding it in for too long increases your risk of prostate cancer by twenty percent."
"I specifically put you in this university hotel. As they say in China, ’The balcony by the water gets the moon first.’ College girls are easy to pick up. You’ve gotta seize the opportunity."
"The saying is, ’The pavilion by the water gets the moon first.’ Stop butchering the words. Now hurry up and go, your Eva is getting impatient!"
Feng Mountain couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he irritably corrected Frank.
With that said, he began pushing Frank toward the door without another word.
After shoving Frank out of the room, Feng Mountain unceremoniously slammed the door. Then, like a deflating balloon, he threw himself onto the bed.
He stared at the ceiling, wondering how he should spend his free time.
Then, he pulled out his phone and called Jenny.
In two days, Nash would be bringing members of the Bear Tribe to the Crown Territory. Arranging their food and accommodations was going to be a major task.
SIGH!
’Never a moment’s peace.’
’It’s a life of endless work.’
