Chapter 1 1
Chapter 1 1
At first it was an inadvertent pull.
Tim doesn't care about that, he's so engrossed in tracking down a truck full of illegal weapons that a little tug doesn't distract him.
He jumps over rooftops, weaves between buildings, and then hooks and swings down to the next building, eventually aiming for the roof of a truck.Red Robin is busy right now.Nothing can hold him back.
However, when he landed on the roof of the car, he was pulled back again. He didn't have time to think about it, after all, the people below were shooting at the top. There was a noise in the car and then—he fell backwards, and if he hadn't caught the edge in time, he would have fallen off the roof.
"Damn!" Tim cursed. He looked at his hands—and found a clue. The end of the red thread wrapped around the ring finger is no longer visible. It doesn't melt into the air like it used to, it's there.A long thin rope that kept pulling him back was really getting in the way.It started again, and this time the strong Tim could barely hold onto the rim.
The truck door opened and two men came out and stood outside and shot him.Tim jumped out of the car and got away with the grapple gun.
"Red Robin," Tim said into the communicator, "needs backup."
"Is everything okay?" the oracle asked.
"Yeah, it's just my—" There was a jerk on the stupid rope, and Tim had to swing back another floor. "My red line. Gotta send someone else to handle the case."
"Got it. The blue bird is nearby."
Tim pouted. He was not happy that Harper took over the case, because he had been busy for several weeks, and tonight was the day to close the net.But his soul mate was in the middle of the road.
Tim wondered if other people's red lines were as powerful. It dragged him all the way, pulling him to his destination.
Since you can't resist, you can only follow.Should he change his clothes first? You can't just show up in front of strangers and introduce yourself "Hi, I'm your destined other half. Yes, I'm Red Robin. No, I can't tell you my real name."
"Uh, Red..." Barbara said.
"What's wrong? What's wrong with the blue bird?"
"No no, she's fine. I'm sending Signal to back it up," Barbara explained. "That's... you don't need to change your uniform."
"explain?"
The rope was pulled again, really hard this time, and Tim fell off the building he was standing on.Fortunately, he reacted in time and landed gracefully with the hook. That's what he planned, but it was a pity that he bumped into a ball with someone before his feet could touch the ground.
Tim leaned back and fell heavily to the ground. It hurts to death.
"Damn it!" the man he bumped into cursed.Tim looked up.
"Hood?"
Jason was across from him, also lying on the ground, propping himself up on his elbows.Tim blinks, then glances at his own red lines. The red line was connected to Jason's hand.
"Really stupid," Tim suddenly realized, beeping softly.
----------------
Bruce's lips were drawn into a thin line. His eyes fell on Tim, and it was as uncomfortable as falling on the red line between him and Jason at this time.
"It was...unexpected," Bruce said.
"It's up to you," Jason choked.Tim casts a sideways glance at his so-called soul mate.
"Did you think I wanted this? I was busy."
"Do you think I'm idle? I was with Black Mask back then. Now that bastard knows I found mine—" Jason stopped abruptly.Tim thanks him for that, and he doesn't yell the word.He was still digesting the fact that Jason Todd was his soul mate.
"All the activities of the two of you have been canceled this week." Bruce said.
That's out of the question, Jason and Tim protest loudly at the same time. "No way! What the hell!" "You can't do that!"
Bruce raised his hand. "In your current situation, I can't let you two go to the street."
Jason muttered. "Go to Nima, you can't control me."
"Red Week is about to begin," Bruce said.Alfred appeared behind him.
"I've got what you asked for, Master Bruce."
"Thank you, Alfred."
Ah Fu handed the booklets to Tim and Jason in turn.Tim's eyes widened, and he blinked at the red manual.
"Are you kidding?" Jason asked.
"I'm serious," Bruce said. "You need to understand what it means to find a soul mate. Since you are still legally dead, you can't go to the information center to make an appointment now."
Yes, this is the normal process.Once you find your soul mate, the person at the end of your red string. You should go to the Red Line Information Center in your city to make an appointment. They'll register the two as a destined couple, explain what's going on, you can take a week off work, and offer any help you need.
Jason tossed the manual aside. "I don't need it."
"Me too," Tim agrees. "I know everything."
They have learned it several times in school. The course made finding a soul mate boring and dry.Not so in the movies, finding a soul mate is both unique and exciting. At the moment when I found it, my life seemed to be extremely complete, and I could live happily ever after.
In contrast, Tim's experience is not boring, nor is it particularly romantic.
There are times when people have known each other for a long time, but the red line has only recently emerged, as in the case of Jason and Tim.Very rare, but occasionally.
"Okay," Jason said, "let's break the rope now."
Tim snapped immediately. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Jason." Even Bruce was negative.
"Could it be that you want me to be his soul mate?" Jason laughed, raising his hand to show Bruce the red line on his finger. "It's all bullshit. You don't want me as your replacement soul mate. You can't let the biggest failure of your life get your hands on your precious son, can you?"
Tim cleared his throat. "Okay, he didn't think so, and neither did I. But you know what happens to people who break their ropes before Red Week is over."
Jason rolled his eyes. "They were unlucky." This was far worse than bad luck, and some people ended up with unexpected deaths.Anyway, it didn't end well. "I've died before, why are you afraid of this?"
"Soul mates for our work..." Bruce considered, "It's not ideal. But at least you are both vigilantes and can understand each other. You just need to keep it for a week, and then disconnect."
Jason gave Tim a wink. "I can't stay with him, for a week."
Tim was furious. "Fuck you, Jason," he growled. "I don't want to keep it either. I have my own business. Work, case, my life. Just a week."
A particularly long week, but seven days anyway.
"You understand what that means?" Jason asked him. "You put it simply. We must live together. Not more than thirty feet apart."
"Just a week," Tim repeated.
Bruce nods in Tim's direction. "Tim has a point. Recklessly deciding to break a red line just because you can't resolve your conflicts and discord with the other side is asking for trouble."
Jason snorted. "Yeah, so how did you spend Red Week with Selena? I dare say you didn't get out of bed for the whole seven days."
Bruce sighed and ignored him. "Where are you going to stay?"
All right. "Go to Timna," Jason said decisively.
"what?"
"I won't let you set foot in my place," Jason explained.
"Why should I let you into my place?"
"You can live at the manor," Bruce suggested.
"Go to me, it's settled," Tim said decisively, with Jason grinning triumphantly beside him.God, Tim was mad at him. There was absolutely no way Jason was his soul mate.Whoever was manipulating the red line just wanted to toss Tim, torment Tim, and pick Jason Todd out of thousands of people to be right with him.
"Great. Don't fight all the time, you know what's going to happen," Bruce warned them.
"It's a serious problem," Tim said. "Jason can't control his own mouth."
"Bullshit. You're the one who can't hold your tongue. I'm civilized and polite. I don't even bother to talk to you."
Tim rolled his eyes. "That's right. You like to talk to yourself, just to Dick—"
Sooner or later, the rope between the two was shortened, their hands were pulled together, and they almost touched each other.Bruce raised his eyebrows silently, his expression said 'what did I just say'.
Tim and Jason are very close now.Tim glared at the tall man again, "Don't say a word."
"Row."
"Great!"
The rope continued to shorten, and the two fingers brushed each other.Tim jerked back, but the rope pulled him forward. He let out a long breath.Well, if this fight continues, the rope should be even shorter.
"Get your stuff first," Tim suggested.
He can't wait for Red Week to be over soon, when he'll be free to walk as he pleases without a nasty soulmate at the end of his rope.
Tim puts on a poker face, but he's really disappointed. Not because of Jason, but... deep down, he really expected the meeting with his soul mate to be like it was portrayed in movies and books.
A romantic moment of love at first sight, with his soul mate gasping in surprise and smiling, delighted to have finally found him.Tim knows it sounds goofy, but he's always hoped to find his other half and never be apart.
Too bad his other half was Jason.
