Chapter 977 Emergency Mission
Chapter 977 Emergency Mission
"Did you win?" Luo Sheng asked. Although she already knew the result, she still wanted to hear him say it himself.
"We won."
"Where is Lei Sha?"
"He's dead."
Luo Sheng was silent for a moment, then picked up the wine glass on the table and handed it to Lin Qiye: "Congratulations."
Lin Qiye took the wine glass, but did not drink it immediately. He simply held it in his hand, feeling the warmth emanating from the glass.
The Barbarian Princess grinned from the side, "I knew he'd win! What is that Lei Sha? Does he even dare to compare himself to us men?"
Shuang'er didn't say anything, but quietly picked up a piece of food with her chopsticks and placed it in the bowl in front of Lin Qiye.
Lin Qiye picked up his wine glass and took a small sip. The wine was warm and smooth, sliding down his throat and into his stomach with a faint warmth.
"Oh, right, there's one more thing." Lin Qiye put down his wine glass. "I've joined the Oversight Council."
The three women were stunned for a moment.
Luo Sheng was the first to react: "The Oversight Council? They contacted you?"
"Yes. After the competition, Mo Yuan came to me and asked me to join."
"You agreed?"
"I agreed."
Luo Sheng remained silent for a long time, then let out a long sigh: "That's good. With the protection of the Oversight Council, at least on the surface, no one will dare to easily touch you."
"But it doesn't come without a price," Shuang'er suddenly spoke, her voice cold. "The Oversight Council isn't a monolithic entity. As a newly joined reserve officer, there will definitely be people who are dissatisfied, people who will test you, and people who will try to step on you to rise to power."
"I know," Lin Qiye said calmly, "but it's better than fighting alone."
"That's right." The Barbarian Princess slammed her hand on the table, making the wine cups on it jump. "Who cares about the Overwatch Council or anything like that!"
Luo Sheng glared at her: "Can't you, a pregnant woman, just shut up for a bit?"
Barbarian Princess chuckled, touched her already protruding belly, and remained silent.
Looking at the three women in front of him, Lin Qiye felt a rare warmth rise in his heart.
He picked up his glass and took another sip.
"We might have to move starting tomorrow."
"Move? Move to where?" Luo Sheng asked.
"The accommodations arranged by the Control Yuan for reserve officers are much larger and safer than this."
The three women exchanged glances, a hint of anticipation flashing in their eyes.
The residence of the inspectors of the Overwatch Council was a place they had never dared to dream of before.
……
The next morning, the management office sent people to help Lin Qiye move.
There were quite a few people, more than a dozen, led by a middle-aged steward who looked shrewd and capable. When he heard that Lin Qiye had joined the Overwatch Council, his attitude became many times more respectful than before, addressing him as "Deacon Lin" in a friendly and natural manner.
Lin Qiye didn't have many things, and the three women didn't have too many things either, but when you add the medicinal herbs, pills, weapons, and some daily necessities they had accumulated over this period, they filled seven or eight boxes.
The middle-aged manager directed the staff to load the boxes onto the transport vehicle one by one.
The new residence is a separate courtyard.
Unlike the cramped one-bedroom apartment she had before, this courtyard was much larger. The main house had three rooms, with a side room on each side. There was also a well and a small open space in the courtyard, enough for the Barbarian Princess to practice her boxing and stretch her muscles. The courtyard wall was twice as high as her previous residence, and protective runes were engraved on it, effectively blocking most external source energy detection and spying.
Luo Sheng stood in the courtyard, looked around, and a satisfied smile appeared on her lips: "It's much better than before."
Shuang'er silently went into the room, checked the structure and orientation of the room, and nodded to Lin Qiye when she came out: "The ventilation and lighting are good, suitable for pregnancy."
Barbarian Princess jumped twice on the open ground to feel the hardness under her feet, then nodded in satisfaction: "Big and sturdy enough! After the baby is born, I can practice boxing here without worrying about bumping into the wall."
The middle-aged steward stood respectfully at the door, waiting for the three women to finish their tour before stepping forward and handing over a jade slip with both hands: "Steward Lin, this is your cultivation resource quota list for this month. According to the regulations of the Oversight Council, reserve stewards are entitled to one high-grade source crystal, one bottle of Qi-Melting Pill, and one copy of an advanced source qi cultivation technique each month. You can collect them from the resource vault at any time."
Lin Qiye took the jade slip, glanced at it, and nodded: "Thank you."
"No, no, not at all." The middle-aged manager quickly waved his hand, exchanged a few more pleasantries, and then tactfully led his men away.
In the blink of an eye, a month has passed.
A hurried sound of footsteps came from the entrance of the passageway.
The one who arrived was a messenger from the Overwatch Council, dressed in a dark green short robe with a silver token hanging at his waist. His steps were quick but not disorderly. He stopped at the gate of the council and clasped his hands in a fist salute: "Deacon Lin, Lord Mo Yuan requests your immediate presence in the council hall of the Overwatch Council. There is an urgent mission that requires your participation."
Lin Qiye lowered his spear, looked up at the messenger, and asked, "What mission?"
"Lord Mo Yuan will explain the specifics in the council hall. I am only responsible for relaying the order." The messenger's tone was respectful, but there was also a hint of urgency in it. "The other reserve deacons are already on their way. Please set off as soon as possible."
Lin Qiye didn't ask any further questions, nodded, and turned to go inside. Luo Sheng was brewing medicine at the stove, and seeing his expression, she understood: "Going on a mission?"
"Yes, it's an urgent mission from the Control Yuan. I might have to go for a few days."
Shuang'er came out of the inner room, holding a small cloth bag in her hand, and handed it to him: "Inside are some emergency wound medicines and antidotes, and a few packets of Qi-stabilizing powder, just in case."
Lin Qiye took the cloth bag, his fingertips touching her slightly cool fingers, and nodded: "You two stay home and rest during this time. I will come back as soon as possible. If anything happens, go to the Supervisory Bureau and find Mo Yuan. He will send someone to take care of you."
The Barbarian Princess stood at the doorway, hands on her hips, her pregnant belly protruding. "Go ahead without worry. There are three of us here; nothing will happen. If anyone dares to cause trouble while you're away, I'll punch them into the wall."
Luo Sheng rolled her eyes at her, but couldn't help but smile slightly: "Alright, alright, go ahead, don't keep the higher-ups waiting."
Lin Qiye didn't say anything more, turned around and walked out of the courtyard gate, following the messenger as they quickly disappeared at the end of the passageway.
……
The atmosphere in the Control Yuan's council chamber was completely different from when I last visited.
When Lin Qiye pushed open the door, there were already five people waiting in the hall. Mo Yuan stood at one end of the black stone table, holding a jade slip that emitted a pale blue light, his brows slightly furrowed. Four figures stood on either side of the stone table—three men and one woman. They didn't seem very old, but their auras were all above the level of high-ranking deacons, clearly indicating that they were all reserve deacons of the Oversight Council.
One of them was a burly, bald man with bulging muscles in his arms and a massive sword as wide as a door strapped to his back. When he saw Lin Qiye enter, his gaze lingered on him for a few moments, a slight smirk playing on his lips, carrying a hint of scrutiny. The other was a thin, gray-haired man with a long, narrow knife hanging at his waist. His eyes were half-closed, as if he hadn't fully woken up, but Lin Qiye could sense that his aura was the most composed of all.
The only female deacon had short, neat hair and wore a close-fitting leather armor with two short daggers at her waist. She glanced at Lin Qiye, gave a slight nod, and that was considered a greeting. Standing at the far corner was a young man who looked the youngest, but his eyes were surprisingly bright, filled with undisguised curiosity as he looked at Lin Qiye.
