Chapter 927 A Deacon and a Deacon are Different

Chapter 927 A Deacon and a Deacon are Different

Lin Qiye was stopped as soon as he came out of the training area.

A woman in dark red leather armor stood in the middle of the passageway. She had short red hair, an oval face, and sharp, piercing eyes. A metal badge hung from her waist, identical to the one worn by the senior butler.

She stood in the middle of the road, showing no intention of moving aside.

"You're Lin Qiye?"

Lin Qiye stopped and glanced at her.

"Yes."

"You bought Luo Sheng?"

He didn't answer, but his silence was an admission.

The woman's expression darkened. She clenched her fist, then relaxed it, as if suppressing some emotion.

"She's my senior. We're from the same universe, Asgard."

"I've been fighting here for a thousand years, and I just got promoted to senior steward. I've saved up enough gladiator coins, and I was planning to buy her this month."

She had just become a new senior butler and was entitled to a 50% discount according to regulations, but she was late.

As she said this, a hint of resentment crept into her voice.

"You beat me to it."

Lin Qiye looked at her and waited for her to finish speaking.

The woman took a step forward and lowered her voice.

"Resell her to me. The price you paid, six thousand six hundred gladiator coins. I won't let you lose money."

"Not for sale."

Her voice turned cold.

"I'll bid 10,000 gladiatorial coins, that's quite a lot."

"Not for sale."

She stared at Lin Qiye for a few seconds, seemingly reassessing him.

"Do you want more? You can name your price."

"She's pregnant."

The woman's expression shifted. First, there was surprise, then a somewhat indescribable look, and finally, a cryptic smile appeared on her lips.

"Pregnant? That's even better. Name your price, I won't haggle."

She said this with an undisguised sense of pleasure in her voice.

Lin Qiye glanced at her expression and understood immediately. She bought Luo Sheng not to save her, but to torment her. There must be some grudge between them.

But now that Luo Sheng is his woman, he naturally can't sell her.

"Not for sale."

This time, he spoke more calmly and more firmly than the previous two times.

The woman's smile faded.

"You don't know who I work for, do you?"

Lin Qiye looked at her, waiting for her to continue.

"I'm one of Lei Sha's men. There are differences even among high-ranking deacons. You're a newcomer who hasn't even figured out the rules of the arena, yet you dare to try and steal my people?"

She took another step forward, lowering her voice even further.

"Lei Sha has been fighting in the arena for tens of thousands of years. His connections and resources are beyond your imagination. If you do me this favor today, things will be a little easier for you in the arena in the future. If you don't, you'd better think it over."

After listening to her words, Lin Qiye shook his head and left.

The woman stood there, her face ashen.

Her name was Hattie. In the Asgardian universe, she was a warrior under Luo Sheng, renowned for her bravery and skill in battle. However, high prestige can easily lead to arrogance. On one occasion, she disobeyed Luo Sheng's orders at the front lines, recklessly pursuing the enemy, only to fall into an ambush, resulting in the annihilation of three elite fleets.

Luo Sheng didn't kill her, but he publicly stripped her of her military rank, making her unable to hold her head high in front of all the generals. From that moment on, Hattie hated Luo Sheng. She didn't hate the dismissal itself, but the public humiliation. She was one of Asgard's strongest warriors, and she couldn't bear being trampled on in public.

Not long after Luo Sheng ascended, she also had a fortuitous encounter and quickly ascended as well. Landing in the same arena, she was fortunate enough to encounter a powerful figure, slowly gaining a foothold and spending a thousand years climbing to the rank of High-Ranking Steward. Meanwhile, Luo Sheng suffered a thousand consecutive defeats, falling from a king to a worthless nobody, and ending up on the trading platform.

Hedy waited three months, not to save Luo Sheng, but to buy her, to make her kneel before her, and to get revenge for what happened back then. She had even planned how to torture her after she bought her.

As a result, someone beat them to it.

After returning to her room, Hattie became increasingly resentful. Just one day too late, and the person had been intercepted by a newcomer.

She couldn't swallow this insult. But she wasn't the type to act impulsively. She needed to find out who this newcomer was first.

Soon, Hattie found relevant information about Lin Qiye.

Lin Qiye ascended from a secondary universe. On the day he entered prison, he defeated a high-ranking deacon in his first battle, thus obtaining the qualification of a high-ranking deacon. He then used his status as a high-ranking deacon to purchase a maid at a 50% discount.

Hattie thought for a long time in the dim light.

A newcomer defeated a high-ranking deacon in his very first battle. Such individuals are not uncommon in the history of the arena, but each one has achieved considerable success since. The last person to accomplish this was two thousand years ago, and is now an inspector, commanding respect even from Xing Tianlie, the master of the arena.

But she had already offended him. She blocked his path and invoked Lei Sha's name; the feud was now set in stone. If he, a mere newcomer, could defeat a high-ranking deacon now, what would happen hundreds of years later, once he understood the rules and adapted to the fighting style here? She wouldn't even be qualified to stand before him.

At that point, forget about revenge; she might not even be able to survive in the arena.

Then the only option is to kill him before he can react.

She sat alone in the dark for a long time, going over the whole thing from beginning to end. Her goal was clear: make him disappear before the newcomer could establish himself.

Hattie stood up, blew out the oil lamp, and walked toward the top floor of the arena.

Rasha's room was at the end of the corridor. Hattie knocked three times, rhythmically, and then pushed the door open and went in.

Only an oil lamp was lit in the room. A burly man sat at the table, wearing heavy, dark armor without a helmet, but with a black iron mask covering his face, revealing only a pair of cold, sinister eyes. This was Lei Sha, one of the top ten strongest combatants among the high-ranking deacons, rumored to be nearing the threshold of becoming an Inspector.

Hedy skipped the pleasantries and went straight to what had happened that evening. She had known Rasha for years and knew he disliked small talk.

Lei Sha listened in silence for a while. He neither immediately agreed nor refused.

"A newcomer defeated a high-ranking deacon in his very first battle. This has happened several times in the arena's history, and each time it was a significant event. The last person to do so was two thousand years ago; he is now an inspector."

He put down his glass, his eyes behind the mask fixed on Hattie.

"You're going to hurt him?"

"It's settled. What happened between her and me needs to be resolved. I'll never accept it if someone else buys her."

Lei Sha remained silent for a few seconds, then slowly nodded.

"He's no ordinary opponent. This kind of person either doesn't move at all, or if he does, he's definitely going to die. Every day he lives increases the uncertainty."

"Let me see when his next match is."

Lei Sha twirled the wine glass in his hand.

"I'll try my best to go on stage myself. Swords have no eyes. No matter how talented he is, no one will care if he dies on stage."

Hattie nodded. This tactic was nothing new in the arena.

"Thunderous Fiend, thanks."

Then she moved closer...
