Chapter 64 Boomerang
Chapter 64 Boomerang
The sudden turn of events caused an uproar among the employees sitting in the audience.
Why are the FBI agents here?
"Do we have some escaped convict here?"
"A fugitive? That's impossible. Our association's employees are all long-term staff. If he were a fugitive, wouldn't he have been taken away long ago?"
"No, no, no, you forgot, there are also some who aren't long-term employees!"
"You mean Clarissa?"
"Isn't she the prime suspect? Don't forget, she comes from a family of politicians; maybe her father committed the crime?"
This analysis instantly gained the approval of many people.
Even Howard and Jimmy thought so.
From their perspective, they believed they had nothing to do that warranted an FBI investigation. Given the nature of their profession, they felt they had absolutely nothing to do with the FBI.
With this mindset, Jimmy, who kept saying he loved Clarissa, subtly moved to the side.
Howard, on the stage, looked at Clarissa with a mocking expression, shrugged, and said, "Ms. O'Connell, it seems you'll have to leave the association today."
After saying that, he even smiled at the FBI agents who were slowly walking towards him at the entrance and said, "Gentlemen, our association will fully cooperate with your arrest operation."
"That's great, Howard J. Graf. You are suspected of violating the Federal Hazardous Waste Act. Here is an arrest warrant. Come with us."
The lead FBI agent, holding a document, approached Howard.
Howard, who had been smiling, froze instantly. After a full second, realizing what was happening, he looked sharply at Clarissa, who was sitting demurely.
Clarissa smiled and even raised an eyebrow at him slightly.
This single action caused Howard's blood pressure to spike instantly, and his face flushed red.
However, what surprised him even more was that he discovered two more figures at the entrance of the exhibition hall.
A man and a woman were drinking from a can of cola through a straw, making gurgling sounds.
Without time to think, he looked away, spread his hands, and forced a smile at the approaching detective, saying, "Sir, isn't there some misunderstanding? Have you made a mistake?"
The lead agent expressionlessly pulled out handcuffs.
"Howard J. Graf, you have the right to remain silent."
"Everything you say could be used against you in court."
"You have the right to hire a lawyer, and if you can't afford one, the government will assign you one free of charge."
"Do you understand?"
Same rhetoric, same tone.
Listening to the agents read Miranda's warning in a formulaic manner, watching them cuff Howard's hands behind his back.
Everyone present couldn't help but turn their gaze to Meng Ran and Xi Ya at the entrance.
The association has been established for three years.
Police and detectives only came to arrest people twice.
Last time, they were taken away because the two of them beat up Jimmy.
No one expected that this time it would be Howard's turn!
"Are they retaliating?"
"It's not impossible. Jimmy got Howard to fire Bane maliciously. After Bane was beaten by Thea, Howard, in order to protect Jimmy, even threatened to send Bane and Thea to jail."
"Did they go to jail?"
"No, I don't know why, Eunice forced Jimmy to write a letter of understanding and personally went to the police station to handle it."
"So they didn't go to jail?"
"Definitely not. However, Howard is likely to go to jail. The FBI is here, and they won't arrest someone without solid evidence."
"Good heavens, what's wrong with our association? Are we making a movie?"
"Also, why is Howard charged with violating the federal hazardous wastes law? Is it because of projects with Ford and GM?"
"Definitely! A generous gift of crabs! Luckily, this project was handled by the first project team; we weren't involved!"
Upon hearing this, the expressions of the core members of the first project team changed.
As the discussion grew louder, Clarissa slowly rose from her chair.
She glanced around at the crowd and said, "As the association's sole full-time director, I request that everyone remain quiet and not disturb the FBI's investigation, OK?"
The words fell.
The employees all shut up.
But Howard, who was already handcuffed, finally exploded!
The title kept echoing in his mind—the sole full-fledged director? The sole full-fledged director!!
"F***ing bitches! How dare you do this?!" Howard's veins bulged as he charged at Clarissa, but he was pulled back by the agents after only half a step, leaving him struggling and jumping in place.
Jumping and jumping.
He then cursed at Meng Ran and Xi Ya at the entrance.
"Fuck!!"
"You three shameless bitches, how dare you slander me like this!"
"I will sue you!"
"I will definitely sue you!"
Listening to his rant, Meng Ran, sipping his cola, scratched his ear and deliberately asked Xi Ya, "Did you understand what he was saying?"
Thea shook her head cooperatively: "I didn't understand. All I know is that someone who used to say he would guarantee we would go to jail is now going to jail himself."
"I see, things really are unpredictable." Meng Ran chuckled, took a sip through the straw, and made a gurgling sound.
Clarissa looked at him with her head down and chuckled.
The other employees present reacted with varying expressions.
Jimmy was as famous as his uncle.
But Jimmy is a coward; he's several levels below Howard.
He watched helplessly as Howard was taken away by the FBI agents, not daring to utter a single word, nor offering any questions or arguments.
He only got excited after the agents and Howard had completely disappeared from the exhibition hall.
Grabbing a folding chair, she rushed to within about a meter of Meng Ran and loudly demanded, "Was it you two bitches who did this?!"
"I'm warning you, you'd better go and talk to the FBI right now!"
"otherwise……"
"How about we do something else?" Meng Ran asked, holding a can of cola and taking a step forward.
Jimmy was all bark and no bite; he still vividly remembered the time when Meng Ran had his wrist held so tightly he couldn't move.
Seeing Meng Ran step forward, he instinctively took a step back.
As soon as he retreated, several jeers of laughter immediately rose from the crowd.
There are plenty of people in the association who dislike Jimmy, especially the male colleagues. It's just that they didn't show it before because of Howard's feelings.
Now that Howard has been taken away by the FBI, people are no longer going to tolerate him.
The laughter grew louder and louder.
Jimmy, carrying the chair, had his face alternating between pale and flushed, and he was practically grinding his teeth to powder.
He managed to hold on for several seconds before finally remembering that he had another means of revenge: Reg.
So, as if grasping at the last straw, he sneered at Meng Ran, "You'll regret this, I guarantee you'll regret this."
"Your promise is no different from toilet paper."
"Ha! Keep laughing, let's see if you can still laugh later." Jimmy threw down the chair he was holding and stormed out.
Just as he brushed past Meng Ran, he suddenly heard a voice beside him: "You're not hoping that Reg will carry out your plan, are you?"
"??" Jimmy paused.
"!!!!" His pupils dilated as he looked at Meng Ran.
