Chapter 60 Danger in the Rain
Chapter 60 Danger in the Rain
The eerie figure at the cave entrance instantly brought the atmosphere in the camp to a fever pitch.
Jeff hunched over and looked at Simon Lin, his voice urgent: "Buddy, besides your accurate divination, do you have any other Eastern magic, like exorcism? Show me, this thing looks really creepy!"
As soon as he said that, Gloria immediately agreed.
In the rain, the woman's figure became clearer and clearer as she approached the bridge arch step by step. Her wet, long hair fluttered in the wind, adding to her eerie appearance.
Simon rolled his eyes and grabbed a steel bar from the side: "Stop thinking about all that nonsense. I told you to believe in science. He's probably just a homeless guy who got lost in the rain. There's nothing to be afraid of. Leave this to me, Chris, and Jerome. We'll use physical methods to exorcise the 'demon'."
Jerome nodded in agreement. As a former technical officer, he still held a strong belief in science: "From a scientific point of view, there is currently no evidence to support the existence of ghosts; they are most likely human."
Gloria, after hearing this, said to Chris, "Chris, if you take care of her, we'll call it even for the sake of the foot bath water incident, how about it?"
"Me?"
Chris froze, instinctively swallowing.
He was terrified, but seeing everyone's gaze, he could only pretend not to be afraid.
Chris clenched his fists, forcing himself to remain calm, and roared into the pouring rain, "Hey! You ghost, if you dare come near and hurt my friend, I'll beat you so badly your own mother won't recognize you!"
"Who are you going to hit?"
A clear, cool female voice came from the rain, and the figure had already reached the entrance of the bridge arch.
When everyone looked up in the dim light from the cave entrance, they were instantly stunned:
It wasn't some female ghost at all; it was clearly Isidora, Chris's girlfriend, soaking wet.
Her long hair dripped water onto her cheeks, and her coat was soaked and clung to her body. She looked disheveled, but her features were still clear.
Gloria patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief, then huddled with Riley and Jeff, complaining, "My God, I was almost scared to death! I thought I was going to die here!"
Jeff wiped his face and said, "At least it wasn't a horror movie scene. My legs were weak just now."
Jerome said with certainty, "I knew it. From a scientific point of view, there are no ghosts. It was a misunderstanding after all."
Chris's tough exterior crumbled instantly. Seeing the anger in Isidora's eyes, he frantically grabbed a towel and rushed over to offer help: "Darling, hurry up and dry yourself off. Why didn't you bring an umbrella?" Isidora dodged his hand, her tone laced with irritation: "How was I supposed to know it would start raining so hard halfway through? I shouldn't have come looking for you!"
Chris was seen scratching his head, trying to find the right medicine, when he was asked the same question again.
Lin Ximeng immediately broke the silence between the couple: "Coming over in the middle of the night, is it urgent?"
Isidora glared at Chris, her voice still tinged with anger: "I'm not doing this for some muscle-bound idiot."
She paused, her expression turning serious: "Recently, news of your defeat of boxer Brock has spread. The Black Penguin team can't swallow this insult, and I heard they're sending a small team over to teach Camp 39 a lesson."
The relaxed atmosphere in the camp instantly vanished upon hearing this, and everyone's smiles disappeared as they all turned to look at Lin Ximeng.
Lin Simon raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is this small team even stronger than that boxer Brock?"
Isidora shook her head: "It's hard to say, but they once ambushed and attacked Brock, beating him until he begged for mercy on the spot. These guys are all street thugs; what's impressive is their teamwork."
Everyone's expressions changed upon hearing this, and Gloria's face immediately fell: "Oh no, oh no, are we going to be captured and made into their black penguin jar slaves?"
Riley looked anxious too: "I heard their KPIs are very strict. Can we meet them?"
Lin Ximeng pressed, "When will they arrive?"
Isidore smoothed his soaked hair and said in a slightly gentler tone, "We were supposed to arrive this morning, but with this heavy rain, it will most likely be delayed for a while."
Lin Simon quickly started calculating in his mind:
My opponent is skilled in street fighting, but street fighting is also my specialty.
[Skill: Street Fighting Lv.1]
In other words, the other party is walking right into the line of fire?
That's a perfect match for my major, there's absolutely nothing to be afraid of.
Moreover, the fighting capacity of this group will be somewhat reduced as they travel in the rain.
Having figured this out, Lin Ximeng said in a relaxed tone, "Then everyone can relax and get a good night's sleep. I predict that the rain will continue. When they come, they'll be tired and sleepy, so we can just beat them up and drive them away."
He then added, "But just in case, we'll take turns keeping watch in several shifts, with each person keeping watch for two hours. This way, we can stay alert without disturbing our rest."
Isidora looked at Simon Lin with a puzzled expression, unable to understand why he was so confident, after all, the other party was a team that could beat boxer Brock.
But when she turned to look at the others, she saw that everyone seemed to feel much more at ease because of Lin Ximeng's words.
Gloria shrank deeper into her cotton coat, pursed her lips and smiled, "Since Simon has already divined, I have confidence. The rain is so heavy and cold, they're all frozen stiff, how could they have the strength to fight? If he says everything's alright, then everything's alright."
Riley breathed a sigh of relief and pulled the blanket around himself closer: "Anyway, Simon is here, and there's a waterproof sheet to cover us. It's better than panicking."
After several unexpected events, both of them began to have complete faith in Lin Ximeng's divination.
Jeff was even more blunt: "Who cares? Let's get enough sleep first. It's so cold, I can't handle the fuss."
Jerome remained resolute: "Last time, when we teamed up with Simon, we were able to take down Brock. It'll be the same this time. No matter how well they coordinate, they can't withstand our preparedness."
Chris immediately moved closer to Isidora, patting his chest and assuring her, "Don't worry, darling, I'll definitely protect you and won't let those people lay a finger on you."
When Isidora heard Chris say that, she did snort, turned her head away, and a smile seemed to appear on her lips.
Once the decision was made, everyone stopped hesitating and went back to their respective tents to rest.
Seeing this, Chris hurriedly packed up his tent and went to Isidora's side to coax her with gentle persuasion.
Isidora complained that the tent was too small, but she reluctantly followed him inside, reminding Chris not to move around.
Gloria and Riley fell asleep quickly, and soon their soft breathing could be heard.
Jerome also went to take a nap.
Jeff, carrying a small stone, walked to the entrance of the bridge arch and sat down: "Damn it, I'm the first one on watch. It's so cold, it's torture."
Lin Ximeng also returned to the tent and closed his eyes to rest.
......
About an hour later.
The corner is 100 meters away from the No. 39 bridge arch camp.
A red Kia sedan slowly drove up in the rain.
There were four people in the car. Three black men sat side by side in the back seat, looking fierce. The black man in the driver's seat had a scar on his left eye, which stretched from his brow bone to his cheek, giving him a menacing look.
He slammed on the brakes, glanced towards the underpass, and turned to the white man in the passenger seat, asking, "Camp 39, right? Horus is here?"
The white passenger in the passenger seat had red hair and a silver earring. He tapped his fingertip on the car window and nodded in response, "Yes, this is it. The heavy rain provides good cover."
As he spoke, he quietly slipped his left hand behind his back and rapidly tapped on his phone screen, sending a message: "Mr. Horus, someone is here to cause you trouble."
